Predator – he’s back and he’s bummed

November 30, 2009 Leave a comment
It seems the Predator franchise is about to be resurrected with another sequel to be released towards the middle of next year. At the helm of the project is Antal Nimród. We’ll forgive those of you who don’t know who he is, seeing as he is quite new on the scene. If you’re keen to see his work you can watch his latest film – Armored – which should be coming to cinema’s soon. His other films include Vacancy and Kontroll – for which he is best known and has won numerous awards.
Getting back to the film – not a whole lot has been revealed at this point. What we do know is that Robert Rodriguez will be producing the project. As far as I know he has also been involved in the screenplay and was responsible for bringing Antal on as director. The lead role will be played by Adrien Brody… that’s right, the skinny guy from The Pianist, King Kong and The Brothers Bloom. Apparently, and I quote Antal directly, “…if you look at the guys in Iraq and Afghanistan today, they’re not ‘yolked- out’ Schwarzenegger-looking guys. They’re all very wiry and thin guys, and I think it’s going to play well.” Well I’ll admit it should be pretty interesting. The guys got a big nose, let’s hope he’s got the balls to match. After all, he is going to be facing a group of Predators in this film. Arnie could only take down one… enough said.
At this point the name of the film hasn’t been finalised. Some are calling it “Robert Rondriguez’s Predators”. Rondriguez himself has said that he wants to call it “Predators” in the same way that the second film in Alien franchise was called Aliens.
That’s all for now.

The Hobbit – filming update

The filming of The Hobbit has been the centre of speculation since the Lord of the Rings trilogy was released. But it seems that things are starting to come together. Peter Jackson is, once again, in the think of things. He will be producing the film and has brought Guillermo Del Toro on as the director (his work includes – Blade 2, Hellboy 1 and 2 and Pan’s Labyrinth).

At the moment the script is still busy being drafted. But it seems that Jackson is hopeful that filming will start next sometime next year saying, “We’re currently working on the second script which we hope to have completed by the end of this year or beginning of next.  When the scripts are completed, we can begin with the exact calculation of the necessary budget.  We hope to start filming in the middle of next year. However, we’ve received no green light from the studio yet.”

From previous Jackson comments it seems that the film will be released in two parts over two years. Part 1 is roughly scheduled for release in December 2011, and Part 2 in December 2012.
